The 2010 Kemble open practical rifle competition organised by London Practical Shooting Club took place on Sunday 1st August at Longmoor ETR range and was won by Chris Vale with a total score of 1320

The Kemble is one of the only opportunities in the shooting calendar to shoot at electronic 'reactive' targets. The targetry is set up at 100,200 and 300yards and consists of Fig.11 silhouette targets that are programmed by the range officer to 'pop up' for different lengths of time and in different sequences. These targets are designed to fall when hit and scores are registered electronically in the control room.

The course of fire is extremely challenging and involves targets appearing for varying periods of time at all 3 distances during each practice. Shooters usually have to change position (e.g. prone, sitting, squatting, standing, fire trench), shoot from left and right shoulders and may also need to complete compulsory magazine changes as well

The long distance practice involves time limited exposures at 400,500 and 600 yards where the shooter can engage each target with as many rounds as they choose subject to an overall maximum of of 20rounds

Finally there is a two phase advance - the first a run down from 400yds to the 300 yd firing point to engage targets at 100, 200 and 300yds, and the second a slow advance during which targets must be engaged at distances from 90yds to 225 yds

Unfortunately the 2011 Kemble had to be cancelled due to clashes with other events affecting entry levels

We hope to run a Kemble competition in 2012 and further details will follow
